Olive oil is extracted from the olives of Olea europaea which is a traditional crop grown in Mediterranean Basin. It has wide variety of uses from cooking to dressing salad, from cosmetics to pharmaceuticals, from frying foods to using in fuels in lamps.

1.) Reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases:

Francisco Molina who is a researcher at Jaén informed the Olive Oil Times that olive oil has an inflammatory property which helps in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Olive oil is the main ingredient in the diet of the people of Mediterranean Basin.

It is observed and investigated that consumption of olive oil has improved the life extend of the people. The concentration of polyphenols in olive oil helps in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

2.) Fights Alzheimer’s disease:

Alzheimer’s disease is a mental disorder in which memory and thinking of a person gets damaged. It reduces the efficiency of a person to perform even the simple tasks in a day to day routine. This type of brain cell damage is firstly irreversible and is progressive. Alzheimer is referred to as neurodegenerative disease which eats a brain of a person slowly and gradually.

In the research of 2017 which took place at the Alzheimer’s centre proved that olive oil has been effective in fighting the disease and reducing the risk of eventually adapting it.

According to Mona Gohara, olive oil is tested as heavy, fatty acid oil which will clog pores making a house for bacteria.

On the other hand it is said that olive oil has hydrating properties which fuse the water and moisture in the skin making it hydrated but still researches had not confirmed the real benefits of olive oil for skin.

6.) Prevents Diabetes:

Recent studies have shown that people who consume higher amount of olive oil face lesser risk of developing diabetes. Due to the reason of lowering the level of cholesterol olive oil reduces the risk of various diseases which can be induced by the patients of diabetes.

Side effects of Olive Oil:

  • There are people who have been allergic to olive oil and have shown acute series of reactions on their body system.
  • Application of olive oil on the skin of baby will react and cause rashes as their skin is referred to as the most sensitive skin.
  • Due to its sticky and heavy properties olive oil can cause pores creating blackheads on the sensitive areas.
  • Olive oil intake tends to lower the level of blood pressure than its normal rate.
  • Consumption of high level of olive oil causes blockage in gallbladder.
  • Loaded with fatty acids, olive oil may even cause problems in digestive system raising the issue of diarrhea.
